is the two flange half coupling with ordinary flat keys respectively and two shaft connection, and then bolt the two half coupling into one, in order to transfer motion and torque.

Flange couplings have two main types of construction:

1. By reaming holes with bolts to achieve two-axis alignment and by the bolt rod to bear extrusion and shear to transfer torque;

2. Align with the convex shoulder on one half coupling and the groove on the other half coupling.

The bolts connecting the two semi-couplings can be class A and class B ordinary bolts, and the torque is transmitted by the friction torque of the joint surface of the two semi-couplings.

Flange couplings may be made of carbon steel, or cast or forged steel for heavy duty or circumferential speeds greater than 30 m/s. Flange coupling for the neutral requirements of two shafts is very high, when there is a relative displacement of the two shafts, it will cause additional load in the parts, so that the working situation deteriorates, which is its main disadvantage, but because of the simple structure, low cost, can transfer large torque, so when the speed is low, no impact, the rigidity of the shaft is large.
